The Unley dream team

Image
At the last Unley Council election in 2018, mayor candidates Michael Hewitson and Dario Centrella swapped preferences and ran a 1 & 2 campaign. Michael won due to preferences from Dario. Take the time to read the latest leaflets by Hewitson and Centrella and wonder if this is the direction Unley should pursue. On the one hand there might be Michael’s extra tree canopy tax or Dario’s interesting dreams. Will they join up again this year? It would be a weird outcome and either could become mayor. They do make a very interesting duo.   I urge you to stop the nonsense. The only sensible choice is to Vote 1  Bob Schnell for Mayor of Unley I commit to not increasing the rates if you only have 1 or 2 trees. Under the Hewitson plan, your lawn, roses and small bushes do not count. Your property would need to be covered by evergreen trees higher than 3m. You will pay higher rates under Michael Hewitson’s plan. So make the smart choice and Vote 1  Bob Schnell   #Unley

Fix the bad footpaths in Unley

Image
Today I was out door-knocking and letterboxing. The footpaths are terrible  😡 There are so many bad sections across Unley. Real trip hazards  Attached see pics of a really bad trip hazard. I found this hazard in the Ward where Michael Hewitson was a councillor a few years ago. And only recently there were new kerbs, but the footpath was not fixed. It seems that over the past 4 years, the condition of the footpaths has deteriorated.  It’s really woeful. I believe it is due to Unley Council focusing on trees and canopy and ignoring the basics like maintaining our footpaths. When I discovered the serious trip hazard, I imagined Mayor Michael Hewitson sitting in his parlour sipping his almond milk decaf latte coffee while he counted trees and the cost of $100,000s to fly aerial surveys to estimate the big tree canopies across Unley … all in pursuit of a dream to hike extra taxes (rates) for residents who do not have enough tree canopy on their property. Imagine how muc

Queen's funeral

Image
Such sad news about the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Whilst neither a staunch Monarchist nor Republican, as a mark of respect I did stop door knocking and posting on social media for a respectful period; until the Queen was interned in her Royal vault. It was really not a time for council candidates to intrude on Unley residents and ask for their votes. So, I re-start my campaign to be Mayor of Unley. It's time for a real change; a time to deliver better outcomes; a time for a new Mayor! a Mayor who will actually listen to you!!  Bob Schnell - candidate 4 Unley Mayor            #Unley   written&authorised by bob schnell 10 halmon avenue everard park

Sad news about the death of Queen Elizabeth II. As a mark of respect I will cease door knocking and posting on social media for a respectful period. At this time, people really do not want the intrusion of council candidates vying for votes. Bob Schnell - candidate 4 Unley Mayor written&authorised by bob schnell 10 halmon avenue everard park

Resident miffed by UNLEY elected member

I was staggered by what I heard from an #Unley resident last night. The resident contacted an Unley Council elected member to complain about an issue in their street. The elected member was more concerned about getting the resident’s vote at the upcoming election, than listening to the complaint. It was a rather unpleasant exchange. What a sad saga 😡 The reality is that the elected member lost that family’s votes 👎 written&authorised by bob schnell 10 halmon avenue everard park

Cool tomatoes

Image
My cherry tomatoes are still being harvested; in July! Amazing, given how cold it has been. Some sunny days and freezing cold nights. When I pick them they are like ice blocks. Here's a photo of todays harvest. Tip: place in a tray and freeze for winter spaghetti bolognaise.

Unley Mayor Hewitson starts his campaign ☹️

In the heat of the current Federal election campaign, Unley Mayor Michael Hewitson is sending emails to residents across Unley asking them to support his bid at re-election in November. Strewth! Who wants to even think about a council election now?  🤪 He wrote: “Council elections coming up at the end of this year. I am being encouraged to run again … Should I decide to run again I will need your help to succeed.” I just wonder who is encouraging him to run again. Must be his family  😉 I can honestly say that not one of the Unley Councillors or staff members has told me that they are giving Michael any encouragement. In fact, one of the Councillors has posted on FB her displeasure with the mayor. She wrote: “The City of Unley’s Mayor’s recent conduct has found him guilty and in breach of the Local Council Act which he still thinks is silly.  The local media thinks the Mayor is about greater transparency for rate payers. If you read the legal report it will actually inform you that t

Hewitson help

Image
Interesting to see that #Unley Council is advertising for a (new) assistant to the Mayor, Michael Hewitson. For some weird reason, LinkedIn sent me an alert about the job thinking that I would be a good fit and might be interested. Nothing could be further from the truth. After the reported recent goings on at Unley Council, I believe that the mayor needs a minder rather than an assistant. Here are pics of the job posted by LinkedIn ...

Ah-Choo !!

Image
Here’s an interesting read. USA Research has revealed that: “The sound we make when we sneeze isn’t universal, but culturally conditioned. A person in the United States or Britain might make an “ah-choo!” sound when they sneeze, while a person in the Philippines might say “ha-ching!” when they sneeze. People who have been deaf since birth don’t add in any “extra” sounds at all, leaving only the sounds associated with the movement of air a sneeze represents.” Interesting  and we all know people who have a deliberate exaggerated sneeze

Best brawn in Berri

Image
I just love good brawn. I grew up on it, made by my Mum. These days it’s hard to find a butcher that makes it; let alone good brawn. Staying in the Riverland, at Lyrup for a few days. Remembering a previous visit I went to the best traditional butcher in Berri ‘Berri North Butcher’ 28 Zante Rd, Berri SA 5343 He has good customer service. If you express interest in brawn he slices some + polish sausage + fritz + mettwurst and places it on butcher paper for you to try. The brawn and the polish sausage were superb. The best I’ve tasted. I left happy with a foot of polish sausage and a heap of sliced brawn. Enough to last our stay at Lyrup with heaps to bring home. So, if you’re near Berri, then pop in to the Berri North Butcher.

Daylight Saving nonsense

Gosh. I didn’t know that daylight saving is so bad for one’s health 🤔 I will take this article with a grain of salt. https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2022-03-26/daylight-saving-time-year-round-senate-health-sleep-metabolism/100927106?utm_source=sfmc%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8b&utm_medium=email%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8b&utm_campaign=abc_specialist_science_sfmc_20220330%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8b&utm_term=%e2%80%8b&utm_id=1839340%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8b&sfmc_id=286864300

Today’s SA vote count

I just received an email from Premier Steven Marshall. He was telling me about his Strong Plan and how to vote. He’s cutting it a bit fine as today is voting day; besides like 10-15% of people I have already voted; a week ago. The media and local commentators are predicting a landslide swing to Labor. And to cover their arses, their predictions are qualified by statements like ‘but the swing to Labor may be in the wrong seats’. Then I heard the Liberal Spin Doctor Senator Simon Birmingham talking and interpreting what he said, even he is doubtful of the SA Liberals returning to Government. My thoughts: It is unlikely for the Liberals to form government in SA. 6 months ago I blogged that Steven Marshall should be replaced if the Liberals were to stand a chance of being re-elected. BTW I also said that Anthony Albanese should be replaced for Labor to have a chance of winning. On the local front it is unlikely that Unley Councillor (from Fullarton Ward) and Liberal candidate Ms Jordan D

All poles gone!

SA election 2022 Full marks to SA Environment Minister,  David Speirs  for committing to NOT use plastic corflute signs during the election campaign. He agrees with me (and most residents) about the visual and environmental pollution of corflutes. Other candidates are putting them up everywhere. I cringe when I see them on stobie and light poles. On another matter … I’m sure that candidates know their electoral boundaries, but that doesn’t stop them erecting signs outside the boundary. Driving along Leader Street (Goodwood/Forestville/Everard Park) I noticed that:  David Pisoni  (Unley) has signs in Badcoe;  Jayne Stinson  (Badcoe) has signs in Unley; and  Jordan Dodd  (Badcoe) has signs in Unley. The candidates just go into a frenzy and erect their signs in any vacant space. Sad to see this pollution in our streets.
